The Solution

Social & Environmental Value

A unique value proposition of this venture is that not only will it prevent land from being disturbed and destroyed, but it will also re-purpose all material into useful material for use across a range of different end-markets.

From a social context, the Kariyarra People of Port Hedland are directly benefited by possible services rendered by Kariyarra Tyrecycle in several ways.

These are:

RECURRING INCOME

Income from the joint venture will deliver an ongoing revenue stream for the Kariyarra Aboriginal Corporation (KAC).

KAC will use the revenue to support the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

Specifically, this will involve the reinvestment in activities that will deliver an attractive return on investment, as well as being used towards supporting philanthropic programs that directly support the Kariyarra People.

EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING

The joint venture will employ approximately 7 FTEs per year, of which there is a target for 50% Kariyarra employment. Training opportunities (e.g. bobcat, forklift and excavator training and licencing) will be available to encourage Kariyarra employment.

While the employment numbers for this venture are low, there will be a focus on delivering supportive and high-quality employment conditions that will encourage job stability and long-term employment.

CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The responsible reclamation and processing of waste material that would otherwise be disposed of on country land will help to care for the land in a way that preserves it for future generations.

This is an important factor for all Traditional Custodians in the Pilbara region.
